"For with You is the source of life - by Your light may we see light." Tehillim/Psalm 36:10

In this single verse, we are reminded of the key teaching of all the psalms: that God is the Source and Originator of everything that exists. With each breath and every pulse beat, life is granted anew. Divine intelligence exists in every drop of water, in every leaf and mote of dust, and sustains all of creation. We do not always see the cause, but we see the effect. Just as we do not see electricity with the naked eye but enjoy its benefits, so it is with the Generator of life force itself. In truth, our vision is limited to our biased physical eyes. The psalmist prays that we cultivate spiritual vision to see by the light of our souls.

King David was a warrior. He armed himself with closeness to God to fight his internal and external battles. To see through the illusions of this world, we too must become spiritual warriors, determined to see the hidden light in all things. This month, consciously practice seeing the divine essence of all things with eyes of wonderment.
