Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aharon, took her drum in her hand and all the women went forth after her with drums and with dances. Miriam spoke up to them, ‘Sing to Hashem for He is exalted above the arrogant, having hurled horse with its rider into the sea. Shemot/Exodus 15:20

Miriam was the prophet Aharon’s sister, and is credited for reuniting her separated parents so that they would conceive one more child. That child became the holiest man and greatest prophet in all of Judaism, Moshe. Her holiness merited a gift from G-d, a miraculous rock that followed her and the Israelites through their travels in the desert that issued enough water to satiate the entire nation. Upon her passing, “Miriam’s Well” no longer functioned.
