About the Artist

Adam Rhine is the artist behind the "Hebrew Illuminations" series which has sold more than 170,000 wall calendars, 11,600 hardcover art books and 8,000 coloring books since it began in 2004. Adam paints ornate, highly detailed Judaic watercolor paintings and his style is heavily influenced by medieval illuminated manuscripts combined with modern palettes and aesthetics.

Born in Chicago, IL in 1970, Adam grew up an incessant doodler and cartoonist and decided to pursue art at an early age. He graduated with a BFA in Commercial Illustration from Northern Illinois University at age 22, and was awarded by a jury the opportunity for a one-man show of 16 abstract fine art paintings during his senior year, an award not commonly given to a student majoring in "commercial" art. He married his classmate, fellow illustrator Karen, soon after graduation.

In his professional life, he has animated educational videos, coordinated the 2D/3D animation department for a video game company, executed website design and e-learning development for major corporations, and acted as Creative Director of an industry-leading furniture manufacturing company. For 16 years he was the senior manager of Digital Communications for a major healthcare insurance company in downtown Chicago.

For the twentieth year in a row, Adam’s bestselling 2025 wall calendar, "Hebrew Illuminations," features 16 of his unique Judaic designs. His new partner, Andrews McMeel Publishing, has global distribution reach.

Adam’s 108-page hardcover art book, also entitled "Hebrew Illuminations," was published by Sounds True Inc. The book features all 22 Hebrew Illuminated Letters, as well as 22 select designs from his ongoing Magen David (Star of David) series. The meanings and numerology behind each letter are written about in great detail by Adam with the help of New York-based writer/teacher Louise Temple, as well as insights into each Magen David painting.

For adult colorists, there is the Coloring Journey through the Jewish Holy Days - A Coloring Book for Adults that contains 39 complex Judaic designs based on Adam's most well-known Magen David works.

Between 2010 and 2020, a line of large format ketubot (Jewish wedding contracts) by Adam Rhine was made available exclusively through Ketubah.com, the largest provider of ketubot and "Blessings for the Home" designs in North America.

From September through November of 2007, a major showing of his works was held at the Westchester Jewish Center in Mamaroneck, NY. Forty of his best-known Magen Davids and ten of the Hebrew Illuminated Letter Series were on display during the High Holy Days

In September, 2004, Adam was interviewed by the Hallmark Channel to discuss his artwork and inspirations, and then by the Chicago Tribune in August, 2006 in advance of his book being published. His designs have also been featured on the covers of the Texas Jewish Post, Kashrus Magazine, The Jewish Exponent, and Chadashot Magazine.

Adam is active on Facebook, sharing brand new artworks six days a week and answering questions about his paintings. On Instagram his colorful geometric art series can be followed at @mandala_illuminations.
